Carrickmacross: Less than 4km from Arradale house is the town of Carrickmacross. The Irish name for Carrickmacross is “Carraig Mhacaire Rois” which translated means, “The Rock of the Wooded Plain”. The town itself is over 350 years old but it has a church tradition dating back further to the 5th Century.

Carrickmacross is famous for “Carrickmacross Lace” which had it’s origins in the St. Louis Convent in the early 1800′s. The lace was based on designs and methods initially developed in Florence, Italy. There is now a Lace Gallery located in Market Square in the town, where lace is displayed. Carrickmacross also offers an abundance of Restaurants, bars, coffee shops and nightclubs. Bicycle hire and taxi service also available in the town.

FISHING: Carrickmacross and the surrounding area offer lakes too numerous to mention. Some of the lakes nearby include: Lough Muckno (Coarse Fishing), Creevy (Trout fishing), Descart (Bream, Perch, Roach, Rudd, Pike). There is also a local takle shop in the town with a stock of tackle and information on fishing venues.
